Hi All:
After many helpful hint from PMCA members, I have 1 pair of Martins who have stayed for a few weeks and are now busy next building. Still having issues with Sparrows, but they are going to lose.
I have a question about colors. The male of my pair is black, not the purple color of the other Martins that have passed by. Does this mean he's a SY?
Thanks to all who helped me get started. I hope I am on my way.

Larry, it certainly sounds like an ASY male. Some appear to be black, but when the sun shines, you can usually see the purple coloring.

Linda your right, it is a ASY but it's been so long since we have seen Sun, I has not had the pleasure to see his color.Linda Reynolds-TN wrote:Larry, it certainly sounds like an ASY male. Some appear to be black, but when the sun shines, you can usually see the purple coloring.

Larry, almost everything in our part of TN is black or gray too. There has been only sporadic appearances from the sun in weeks. Heck, I am almost suffering from light depravation.........Plants ready for the garden are rotting on my back deck.........
Hopefully the sun will shine soon and you will see that wonderful purple glint of color on their plumage very soon.
