....so I'm standing out in the parking lot after school helping with crowd control as 3,000 kids depart the premises on foot or by bus.
Started out warm this morning, near 70 F but a major cold front blew through today and it was windy and getting down into the 40's.
I look up and right there, over the parking lot comes our first martin, an ASY male

Gliding slowly in the chill wind, visibly fluffed out in that energy conserving manner they have.
Just back from Brazil

I know he wasn't here yesterday evening, I was out looking, Lord knows how far he had travelled today. He went down to the gourd racks behind the school, didn't see any heads out when I looked later. Smart bird, no doubt a veteran of many such weather events.
So, another season begins.....
