Here are a couple of pics from a dreary Sat. morning, and one from a beautiful spring day from last year. If you look close you can see Elvis on the left lower side of the rack sitting on top of a gourd. He seems to have found a mate. I counted 12 martins this morning. I just could not get a pic with them all outside the gourds. It is suppose to rain all week-end here. I will be looking out the windows alot lol. :grin:

Thanks for the pic's, we jus love pic's here on this site, like you it's Dreary here in Texas as well raining and cold as well all weekend.

Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.

I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.


At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.

At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.

Oh that looks sooo good. Gives me hope that Spring will come and my martins will return to Delaware. Thanks!

I see you use no porches on your Supergourds and appear to have PLENTY of martin action.

Thanks everyone. Carlton, I was thinking of getting some porches but I was not sure if it would make it easier for the Starlings to get in. Overhere, Starlings are my worst enemy. Most can't get in, but when a few fiqure it out they can get in as easy as a Martin. I live in the city limits and I am not suppose to shoot a pellet gun, but sometimes I just cannot help myself and I eliminate a few :grin: . If the Starlings use a certain gourd then I set a gourd trap and usually catch them pretty quick. The only bad thing is sometimes I catch some Martins. They don't seem to mind very much though lol. When the season gets in full swing, usually every gourd has Martins and they will chase the Starlings away.

Randall I have the crescent SG's with the metal pmca porches and I have never seen a starling get in my gourds before. I have seen one try before and all it did was spin its wheels. If I ever do have problems with them getting in I will probably take off the porch. I am in city limits also, but I still use my pellet gun. But I do expect someone will complain sometime and then thats when I will have to remove the porch. Atleast I know your martins use the SG's without any porches. Randall what kind of trap do you use for the crescent SG"s? I didn't know they made one.

Hey Craig, the sell the traps for the super gourds here on this site. I have been using them for years. I have caught I don't know how many Starlings and Sparrows with mine. As soon as I see a Sparrow or Starling has claimed a gourd I set the trap. The door on the trap is red so it is easy to see when the trap is tripped. I have caught two sparrows more than once in mine. I think the first one misses the trip rod but the second one does not lol.

The first few years that I starting using the cresent gourds no starlings could figure out how to get in. But when they do they get in quite easily. :x

I really do like the porches and I may try a few in the future. I will only be able to use the outter porch so I can still set my gourd trap.

Good to see and hear from you Randall - nice looking PM's. I have about 25 at Nunez, I had to go out there this morning as I had some wind damage from last night - thank goodness we were able to straighted up a couple of the poles on the gourd racks - I will order a replacement pole. With the sunny weather and clear blue sky this morning, they looked so pretty on the gourds and waiting for me to fix a couple of gourds that mother nature repositioned - I wish I would have brought my camera to attach a pic but there were several ASY Males and ASY Females. Hope you have a great year.

Hello Cliff, nice to hear from you. Glad to hear you got some birds. I have never seen so many Martins so early as this year. The last couple of nights I have been getting over 30 Martins coming in for the night. The only problem is that I only have 14 gourds. I have seen as many as 4 Martins going into one gourd. Well I guess if you are going to have a problem this is the one to have lol. Talk to you later, Randall.

P.S. I bet you cannot wait for that bridge to be fixed by your house lol.
