thanks for the input guys...good idea to flip when they are on "final approach"....they want to take off and fly away when i get close enough to the housing to flip...I flipped about a 100 crickets the other evening and they only just sat and ignored them .....when we get a break in the ra...

Just checking in...having a real cold start here in central Mn....please chime in and let me know if anyone is having luck with supplimental feeding...can't seem to get them to go after any crickets that i fling yet.....have found 1 dead adult male martin so far.....forcast doesn't look too good thr...

....Thanks for the reassuring words Ed....we do have water close by ,not lakes, but beaver ponds...and there is a feedlot (not very big) about 3/4 mile away...getting down to low 30's at night so they seem to stay in their nests later in the morning...what do you have for temps over there in Wiscons...

Hi all...hope everyone is well....have between 12 and 16 pm's show up here but, forecast doesn't look good for central Minnesota....high's low 50's and lows in low 30's for the next 7 days.....I haven't had much luck feeding as they all fly off when i try to get close enough to fling crickets and gr...

hey Jones.....I too have a marlin model 70 .22 with/scope my old bread and butter gun....many starlings and sparrows fell to that Marlin....it was my main goto sniper rifle which I fired from a window in the living room...it was quite the battle because if I missed once, they became extremely cagey....

....try sweet talking the cook at your local café/restaurant...by 11am, she/he, will have saved you more eggshells than you can probably use......mrk

Hello JP from central MN......Hang in there....I drove by a colony on the east side of St Cloud on Monday, and was surprised to see just about every porch had a pm sitting on it!!, (a t-14 and a gourd rack)......at my site, on and off, I've seen only a handful of scouts, up to 10-12 asy males at one...

....well, I went out tonight with some dried crickets in some water to moisten them up and the male that was sitting on the porch swooped and swore at me a few time but wasn't interested in the crickets.....he flew off and never looked back....a female came out of a different compartment and just fl...

...thank you for the advice....will try the feeding after work tomorrow...have a tray that they come to for eggshells and pine needles....have not trained them to catch food....but will give it a go....have some mealworms, crickets, and grasshoppers all dried....will soak in water first.....my wife ...

...My Martins started arriving home this week....Last night I counted at least 8 landing and scooting in their compartments just before dark....now tonight it's snowing a lot...ALOT!!!...thru tonight they are predicting 2 1/2 inches with temps in the 30's......40's-50's tomorrow and 60's on Friday.....

....Congrats Mitch.....guess I can get off the wannabe list also, with 9 pair, and 36 fledge this year...I think that I worry more now that I have them, than I did just trying to get them (took 20+ years)..I'm surrounded by woods and I am always hearing owls hooting all the time....maybe the nitelig...
