martins everywhere

Since fledging only a few martins were around the houses. Today I have well over a hundred. Any idea why? https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3909/14746653483_f41bcaa178_n.jpg IMG_8165 by ausnic1 , on Flickr https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3919/14540144208_720bb03e67_m.jpg IMG_8166 by ausnic1 , on Flickr ...

I live on the Mississippi gulf coast on the water, Bay St Louis to be exact. By the way the (crow) purple martin flies, about 35 miles ENE of New Orleans. I have posted the scout arrival for several years now, 1 house has nests for six years, two more for five years, and two more for four years and ...

Martins on the ground

The wind has been blowing out of the east and southeast at speeds in the low 20s with gusts near 30 knots since yesterday. The house across the canal from me has a yard in the shape of a peninsula and I noticed that there are 50+ martins flying and circling the yard and surrounding water, but not ve...

Is that picture straight from the camera, or do you use a software program to enhance the photo. Picture has very fine detail.

Pappy, My wife's camera is a Canon SX10is with 10.0 mega pixels and she loves it. The zoom in 35mm talk is equiv. to 2.8mm to 560mm. She takes great photos of close-ups of insects and flowers. Do you know what the focal length means 5.0mm to 100.0. I got my old tri-pod out and oiled it up for her t...

IAfter comparing many cameras in the under $500 range, I finally settled on a Canon SX30IS. It has a 35X zoom, that can be extended to 140X, it is a 14.1 mega pixel, and best of all it cost $369. I had a opportunity to shoot next to a neighbor with an SLR camera, that with the lens, cost $1500. He c...

I have had martins for four years now, but no arrivals as of yet. Last year the first, followed by others withi...
