That has been my limited experience also. I believe they are leaving the nest more than I realize in the day(s) before they fledge. It seems to be overnight that they decide to join the adults. I am about to install an owl guard on my trio castle using 2" by 4" dog wire. Should the rectangles run horizontally or vertically?

Robin's Range

I took a look at the map for Robin's winter range. It is most of the USA. Oddly enough though, it seems you don't see them much until right before spring.
