Hi Tim, You can buy a universal joint set for sockets at any tool store. It plugs directly into the socket and takes out almost all vibration from the winch. You can use as long an extension as you want but I use a short one. Any more questions you can e-mail me and I will send you photos, Good luck

I have been using worm gear winches for years. To take any vibration out of the winch I use a double nut tightened against each other and add a Socket to the drill with a universal joint between the socket and the drill. This makes the house raise and lower very smoothly. I also lubricate the winch ...

Andy, I live aprox 100 miles north of you around Pittsburgh Pa. If you are ever in the area I am in the process of building a new T-14 and have several in use now. I think you may learn a lot if we got together.

Any other help I can give you, please let me know,

Message from a Re-habber

Beth McMaster owns and operates "Stormy Oaks Wildbird Recovery" a local Re-habber. I took her 3 Nestlings that had deformed legs and could never fledge. She told me she has had quite a few Robins and Grackles that have had other strange deformaties. She is concerned about a bill now in con...

My birds stayed out at least most of the night last Friday. I thought it was the heat but now that it has cooled off here they still stay out. I hope a GHO is not on the prowl.

House Sparrows will not stay on their own level. You need to eliminate them or you will have this potential problem as long as they are there.

If you want to make cages for a T-14 send me a e-mail and I would be glad to help you. I don't know exactly wher...

Unfortunately once a GHO has success getting to your martins he will be difficult to deter. I had a remote site that was almost completely wiped out by a GHO. He broke out almost all of my excluder ll inserts and there were martin remains everywhere. I since added cages and the problem seems to be e...

Hi Toy,

I have a SYF here as well. No males yet.

I have a lot of nest building going on here though. The weather has improved a lot and things are getting back to normal. Green leaves are late and I am sure they will be looking for some soon.

Have a great year.

She is back for the 8th time!

This beautiful girl ( T-192 ) is here for the 8th year. She used a compartment in the T-14 for the first four years, then switched to a gourd below the T-14 for the last four years. I was so glad to see her yesterday sitting on the same gourd that she used last year. She always fledges 6 every year....

I have a pair of Red Tails nesting near my colony and have never presented a problem or even a concern for my Martins although they will take a crippled bird or fledgling that fell out of a nest if you don't get there in time. I have had that happen once just as I was leaving the house to rescue the...

Guess what the Easter Bunny brought me?

I woke up Easter morning to find a ASYF exiting a gourd. She was accompanied by a ASYM later in the day. It is great to have them here but it is windy and blistery cold and snowing right now. The Male is eating from the B&B but I haven't seen the Female eat yet. Hoping she will fill her belly an...

Good idea, Emil. I have a situation at Moraine State Park where I have two T-14s with one of the poles about 4 feet longer than the other so I do not raise the one T-14 to the top. In order to keep that house from turning I installed a eye hook in the T-14 on the longer pole and a permanent pulley o...
