Re: Lewis Modification: WEP
You can buy the "Starling Stoppers" from PMCA. They are listed in current catalog. You can use them on Troyer gourds. You can remove them in order to use the Troyer-Haskell Tunnel Trap if you have a problem with Sparrows.

Re: SREH - Does it really exist ??
You can use the PMCA wing guard on outside of Crescent and Coloney II with flush floor and this is most effective. With the excluders SREH's you need a porch with traction to help martins enter.

Re: missing glide button making hub on MP rack hard lower
I will try using one of Troyer buttons before I take the pole down if not after. I like the idea of the nylon bolts. If I can find a teflon machine screw small enough that might work temporarily.

missing glide button making hub on MP rack hard lower
I can replace at end of season. Any one have an idea on what to do until then. I'm thinking of using some silicone calk or lube. The hub is binding against the cable and pole making it near impossible to lower.

Re: Short martin history article, St. Louis focus
John has been a help to a host of folks. I know he helped me get started 10 or 12 years ago. Somehow reading his post led me to believe he would help.
Thanks John. Good article.

Re: Gourds vs House
Maybe this is not true anymore, but in the past say the past 20 years the Trio aluminum house was and maybe still is the most recognized purple martin housing for martins looking for a new site for whatever reason. I can not remember names ( old age) but I do recall landlords that had tried for years...

Re: Starling and Sparrow control for new and wannabe landlords
I agree Brad. Being a Martin landlord reguires a degree of responsibility. The martin is unique in that it does rely on man for it's habitat. Without it the species would disappear or become extinct in North America. I don't think Audubon or Cornell gives the credit we deserve for protection of the ...

Re: Southern landlords, check your nests ASAP!
Brad, I did another nest check today and found no dead chicks. All were small hatchlings and begging for food. In my last post on this I removed 3 large dead chicks and left one from same nest that was still warm and moving but appeared in bad shape. I left it thinking maybe parents could revive it....

Re: Southern landlords, check your nests ASAP!
Brad, had the same thing happen here in North Georgia. 3 older chicks had died in same nest one was still alive but may have been in bad shape. All the recent hatchlings were alive and begging for food. Will check again. I had same thing happen several years ago and I lost 10-20 chicks. The adults d...

rob, Your modificatios look good to me. I don't think martis will have a problem entering either and both should keep starlings out.

my experience with starlings
I think it was 2009 when I bought a A16 gourd rack from CUE and put up 8 round hole THG's with cling plates and 8 THG's with Conley II sreh's. At about the same time I purchase a MPP from CUE and a Safe Have House. I guess I was lucky that a nearby colony had lost it''d martins due to lack of predat...

Re: What's the best hole to use
I would use the Excluder door replacement for your Trio Musselman. I had a starling breach a Trio crescent door on my old Musselman that I use as a sparrow trap with 2 Sparo doors. I had the other entrances blocked with styrofoam pipe insulation plugs. the starling was able to pull the plug and brea...

300,000 thousand martins in the Amazon
If you haven't seen this video put out by PMCA, do your self a favor and search Your Tube for this title. It is amazing footage and it will give you goose bumps to realize you are part of this. These are your martins. thanks to everyone of you.

Re: How do I discourage Starlings
Brad, I raised the porch at the same time I added the WEP over the Crescent sreh on my Safe Haven House. I had read numerous times on this forum that raising the porch was effective in stopping starlings. I had purchased the WEP's to go on the inside of the Safe Haven doors but because the WEP would...

Re: How do I discourage Starlings
I failed to mention that I have used this modification for almost 10 years and the martins have no problem entering or exiting the modified Conley II sreh. and I have had no starlings breach this modification. For those of you and the Troyer's who have had success with the Conley II I will agree it ...

Re: How do I discourage Starlings
Alan, I raised my porch flush with the ConleyII sreh using 1/8 in. POLYMAX or HDPE. The TROYER gourds come with a porch that is 1/8 in. below the entrance so by using the 1/8 in HDPE sheet you can buy from Amazon in small sizes I made the porch flush with the entrance then I used a Dremel tool to sa...
