Re: the state of Central Texas flocks on radar
That expanding green blob in the middle of the screen is indeed the Round Rock roost (birds leaving the roost). Received a tip that the birds moved south of 45 and east of 35 to some trees by Jason's Deli (near Target). Well, shoot, I should have read this thread before going out there. Took me a w...

the state of Central Texas flocks on radar
Dipping into the NEXRAD files, looks like the Austin purple martins are in Round Rock again this year.

Re: Websites and timing to see roost rings on radar?
I posted a different method for finding the rings on my site:

There's also a youtube walkthrough with terrible sound quality.

Re: Bomb Island Roost, Lake Murray, Lexington, SC
Here's the radar in the vicinity of Bomb Island (give or take a few miles!). Looks pretty healthy. https://www.matthewbey.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/lexington-sc.gif Here's the radar near Apalachicola. Looks like the bridge mentioned in the Project MartinRoost map is still in operation? https://...

Re: Texas mass roost sites
I scouted out the Round Rock, Texas roost site last night, and they were where a couple years ago, in the roundabout next to Applebees. My phone camera is terrible, but it was a lovely sight:

Re: Texas mass roost sites
Hope to one day. I don't see any within 5 hour drive of where I live. The Roost page seems to be pretty outdated from my limited searches in a 6 hour radius here. Maybe one day there will be one a little closer. @Jones4381 it looks like you're located in a NEXRAD shadow, too many mountains I guess....

Re: Texas mass roost sites
Hey! Absolutely stunning radar! Well done! I'd imagine this will get some folks going to the roosts. There's two here in corpus ill go visit, one almost entirely of the fledges and the other older birds. Not near as big as those two you found, David Newstead from costal bays and estuaries estimated...

Texas mass roost sites
Hey, y'all, I've been checking NEXRAD II radar to spot the local Austin-metro purple martin roost (looks like it's in Round Rock this year, btw). And I see that there's also signs of a roost in College Station and the San Antonio area. I was wondering if anyone here has put eyes on those other roost...
