Pets around the area

I have been wondering if the pets are any kind of deterrent to the martins coming in. My pets are in a fenced area a good 100 feet from my T14.

Rob I have been looking for someone in WV. to compare notes with. I am glad you joined. I have a T-14 and no luck yet either. I live in Berkeley Springs WV. Last year I had two pairs of tree swallows move into the T-14. I let them stay and glad I did. But this year I put up separate blue bird houses...

Scout report map

I spotted what I thought was a Purple Martin on the fence beside the tree swallow house I put up. It flew away and never came back. Do the male martins roost in the nest

I have read a lot of the forum and have not seen any discussion on where the males roost. Do they stay in the nest with the young and female.

That house looks great. I am new to this and was just wandering about the size of the opening to the nest. Is the opening as large as it looks. Can starlings get in easily.

I only want a T-14 house.

Will I be making a mistake at the beginning if I only want a T-14 house. I do not want to take care of any more Purple martins than what can live in the house. Will this be a problem for future martins coming back.

Need a little help?

Hello to all: Last year I put a house up and had a couple of what I thought were purple martins. Over the winter I really dove into the society to see what I needed to know. Well, the birds I thought were martins are tree swallows. I built a new T-14 martin house, and had all the holes blocked off u...
