Re: Visuals or Sounds?

For me, it's vocals, but I do love watching them entering their cavities at a high rate of speed!

Re: Sparrow traps continued…

Wait until they lay eggs to put the trap in. They will avoid or move on with just a nest, but can't say no to their eggs!

Re: Tufted Titmouse

Cool(I think). I have 2 BB houses on my property. This was the first year I had Tufted titmouse nest and successfully fledge. They are beautiful little birds and their nests are fascinating. They like to line them with hair and fur and are known to steal fur off of living animals.

Re: Question about sparrows

I need to recheck my hole bit. It may be 1 3/8. Anyone know of minimum size a PM can get in?

Re: Question about sparrows

I agree with Martintown. I'm not the best shot, but the sticky rat paper with the smaller entrance works! However, it only worked for me, after the HOSPS laid eggs. I caught 6 out of 6 last year with this method.

Re: HOSP nest found in BB housing

I would definitely try to trap the parents. They are very intelligent, but can't say no to their eggs once laid. Would you consider videoing your pet snake hanging out with the HOSPS? Lol

Re: Nest Checks

First nest check: 16 cavities and 4 gourds. 6 cavities with eggs. 2 gourds with eggs. 3 cavities with babies. I noticed that one of the cavities with babies had some small black ants. I added some Sevin dust to that cavity (hopefully it won't affect the babies) and put some at the base of the pole. ...

Re: New air rifle

Awesome shooting! The HOSPS are in trouble at your house! I bought a Benjamin and a separate scope last year. I just have a really hard time getting steady. I'm trying though. Happy hunting!

Nest Checks

I have searched and read through the archives here((TON of great information), but I want to hear your thoughts. I have a 16 compartment house with 4 gourds added. Every time I think about doing a check, at least 3-5 PMs are present. My colony is still very new. I think we have 10-14. I don't want t...

That's a great story. Enjoyed it. They are so smart. Every time I've shot and missed, I never got another shot. They know and don't forget.

Considering martins will fly in the dark doing the dawnsong before the sun even rises I doubt 4 minutes will have much affect on them.
I agree. Going to be cloudy here, so not much to see, but due to the clouds, the apocalypse has been canceled.

Thanks J! Unfortunately, we don't have tree swallows here. We do have plenty of HOSPS and Starlings! I have a BB house that currently has 5 bb eggs and another BB house that has 5 Tufted titmouse eggs!

Spiderman, you prefer the horizontals over the verticals? HOSPS don't like gourds?

Thanks for the replies. I think I will switch out 2 of the 3 and leave the 3rd Bo that is being visited(for now anyway).
