Re: Do Martins Forage at High Altitudes?
Yes Ma’m they are! Martins forage the highest of any bird in North America…. They say sometimes as high as 5000 ft… Normally up to 400 ft if memory serves me.. At least that’s what I’ve read.. What’s up there I have no idea, but it must taste good! lol Crazy that there are insects that high in the s...

Re: Do parent martins stay in the nest after the chicks hatch?
Hey Brent, I’ve noticed, here anyway, at first they do but as the chicks get older a lot of them don’t spend the night but return to start feeding in the mornings. It does vary a little for each pair. Some of the females will spend the night till they fledge.. Most of my males don’t. Good luck this ...

Re: Sunset Inn System with winch -- need advice
Hello perdek, I also have a sunset in house. There should be no roller inside the house where the cable is attached… The only roller should be on the top of the pole. Couple questions: 1. Can you see if the cable is actually off the roller on the top of the pole? If it’s still on the roller it’s pos...

Re: Just a check-in with fellow landlords
Hi Mike, I had a few going to the ground nest building 14 March. Put some pine straw out and they continued for a few days. Then we had that cold snap for a couple days and all stopped… Been in the 80’s the past two days and they haven’t resumed yet.. Normally they start around April 1st here.. Good...

Re: Housing upgrade- waiting for returnees
I think you will be just fine Laura. With a well established colony I’d bet a paycheck you’ll fill those T-14’s and gourds up this year. I did something similar 2 seasons back. Replaced an old degraded plastic house with a new aluminum house, gourds underneath… Even had different entrances. If memor...

Re: Florida landlords...numbers?
Hey Stingray, I’m quite a bit north of you. Mine were 10 days later this year, Feb 15. But have since made up for lost time and I’m ahead of where I was last year at this point.. March has always been the biggest influx of ASY’s here, with the subbies starting to arrive beginning of April. Hard to c...

They can be quick and sneaky in the evening sometimes. Turn your head or blink and you miss it.
Hope you have a wonderful season!

Re: Sub adults arrival
No problem Ma’m. That was going to be my suggestion if you have no takers this season. I know it’s kind of a pain, but to move the house out towards the open area away from the fence more. That’s what I would do.
Good luck, hope they show up for you.

Re: Sub adults arrival
Looks like a great location! Hard to tell in the pic how far the gourds are from those tall trees behind it? I’m assuming 40 ft or more? In the pic it appears that the house is far enough away from the fence to avoid predators I’m assuming? Since your dad had success there it should be a good locati...

Re: Sub adults arrival
You’re welcome, no problem at all. Everyone on this forum is here to help. Lots of very experienced Landlords! Great job playing the Dawn song all day! You can also try the “chatter” it’s available on YouTube.. Sounds like a huge colony. That’s what worked for me when I started. Also , if you are ab...

Re: Sub adults arrival
The Sub Adults will arrive about 6 weeks after the first ASY’s arrive in your area. Don’t give up on the ASY’s yet though, you still have time to possibly get them also. Keep playing the Dawn Song as much as you possibly can.
Good luck this season. Hope they show up for you!
