PMCA Stance on Nest Site Competitors?

I saw a post from a PMCA member today who said his post regarding the removal of non-native nest site competitors was “disallowed” on the Facebook PMCA site. Was this the action of a “bot” or a moderator acting under PMCA directives?

Message Attachments?

Are .pdf files allowed as message attachments? I tried and got some kind of "file-name" error. What's up with that?

Project Demolition ?

What happened to this PMCA-Generated .pdf file? I still have a hard-copy and could rescan it and save it as a .pdf myself but...there must be some reason it's no longer available in the download section or under educational materials. I'm retired now and here in S.E. Michigan I still see lots of Hou...

Recent Insect Report shows Vast Decline in Biomass

I'm sure this is probably responsible for the greatest decline in everything that depends on them for survival. I guess so few people take road trips anymore, there is very little attention drawn to invasive plant and animals. Get in your car and take a two-tank trip to somewhere you haven't been in...

How long has this GREAT video been around?

How did I miss this great video on YouTube? I guess it was 2014 so that shows you how long I've been out of touch with the Martin Community. Well, 16 years of trying in a state with decreasing numbers will do that to a person (apparently). I heard word of a seminar for anyone who can get to Okemos (...

Hey Zag...I agree and have tried myself between 2000 and 2014 with only a few visitors. The problem is open space and a lack of good sized insects in the areas we've been trying. If you really need a "fix", you can find Martins pretty regularly at Lake St. Clair Metropark as they go feedin...

I think urban folks are more intolerant of insects and are more apt to be using pesticides on anything and everything thereby increasing insect mortality. Couple that with an increase in the prevalence of House Sparrows and few to no natural nesting sites and most cities are effectively inhospitable...

Hi Annie. Yes there has been a lot of development over the last few years regarding webcams. Several new online streaming-video providers make getting your content online easier than ever including "Ustream". I also checked-out a new system from Logitech that's sold as "home security&...

I think that given a choice, all creatures are lazy or maybe you'd care to regard that as "efficient". And...if not for the outright saving of energy, any extra time around the nest is time that can be spent defending the young. So, given a choice, Martins would probably rather make as few...

Hey don't you guys remember the study performed a couple years ago? I think realistically the air temp inside was within a degree or two of the outside air all the time primarily because of the openings to each gourd or compartment. If Martins used "doors" the result might be different. Ha...

Blunt Force Trauma

Seems to me the verdict is in on the RWBBs and others killed on N.Y.E. As is typical it's humans driving this wildlife to their deaths. All sources I could find are stating that the birds were driven-off their roosts into a headlong dash at low altitudes where they collided with trees, powerlines an...

They migrate just like songbirds. I suspect they engage in somrthing akin to "roosting" behavior as well. When the local climate starts to change in a way that prevents local life from carrying on, the choice is clear, hibernate, die or migrate. Did you know that squirrels migrate (or at l...

And I'm thinking the HOSP are present when the people (food) is present and that's about it. There would not be any to trap without the tourists present and everyone would FREAK-OUT if they saw cages with trapped birds in them. Of course why don't these same people freak out at the birds in cages at...

Joe, I'm just curious about how much audio/video (timewise) you can get on a DVD if you don't have the highest possible resolution as source material? If I'm only streaming 640x480 at 30 fps, will it hold like a week's worth of content to one disk? I imagine it won't be long util there are "Blu...
