I have done it both ways,but I found out that I would have bad mite problems when I didn't clean the nests.

I had the same thing happen last year, and it turned out to be an owl. I put up owl guards and drilled holes through the flooring and put a rod through it , so the owl will not be able to open the doors. How do you hang this gourd with wire so that the gourd is hanging horizontal ? Do you have to drill a hole towards the neck ? Any advice would be appreciated.
