Re: Wing entrapment again!

You did a good job and still have a very reliable gourd. Good luck for your colony!

Re: Wing entrapment again!

Yes it does require cutting away some of the gourd, but it is in an area totally covered by the tunnel. It makes your gourd actually larger usable space on the inside. I believe that this procedure is shown on the S&K website where these gourds are sold

Re: Wing entrapment again!

From reading your post it appears you did not remove the interior opening. It should be enlarged so that the opening is just a large hole. When adding tunnels and new exterior openings, the inside opening should be enlarged as much as possible. The gourds you have are good gourds. They just need an i...

Re: Lewis Modification: WEP

I haven't bought any items but so far have eliminated Starlings for several years now just by gluing sign board on the porches. That raises the floor for all troyer gourds. And you can still use the traps when necessary for sparrows.

White-out you did really good. Yes you take action when action is necessary. Martins are very resilient.

Re: Would anyone like to help?

I don't know about lowering the rack 3 times in 2 days. And I do not know if more vents would give you that much additional ventilation. I have Troyer gourds and use only the ventilation that the 1/4 inch drilled holes provide, for the most part. I have 4 lids with ventilation that I have used in Ju...

Re: Would anyone like to help?

https://link not allowed.com/extreme-heat-a-37.html This is a good article on extreme heat in PM housing. It also mentions that Troyers have dimples on the upper part of their gourds to drill 1/4 inch holes to help ventilate the gourds. I am hoping that the above link is clickable but not sure until...

Re: Bad eggs?

It has been my experience that a hatch rate of 85 to 90% is not out of the ordinary. Most are just infertile.

Yes, it works for me in a lot less than 12 hours. You did good in taking care of the problem.

Re: Predator gaurd ?

Warbird, I don't know if it will fit over the winch, but I have read that it should be placed with the lowest point being at least 4 feet above the ground. If it is too low predators will be able to reach over it. Since it is easy on and off you will just remove it to lower the rack to make nest che...

Re: My *second* first year trying

I would guess that you are right. Some of your neighbor's PM's checking out your place. They will remember . Looks like you may be on your way to a colony next year. Good Luck.

Re: Add me to the List--Can't report 1st Arrivals

I did request a new password twice. I still have not received an answer, not in any folder including spam.

As stated above, I fixed my problem by registering using another email address. So all is good. For me.

Re: Add me to the List--Can't report 1st Arrivals

Thanks, Dorn. I solved my problem by registering again with a new email address and a different user name. My real name and address is still the same so it shows up correctly on the list. I used my real name as an alternate name to be used on the reporting list. This is not the best solution, howeve...

Add me to the List--Can't report 1st Arrivals

Lindale, Texas The Martins Have Landed! 2 Males and 2 Females. I couldn't log in and I have yet to receive a new password. I never lost the 1st password, but still no joy. This year's statistics are already useless because of the inability to easily report the first arrivals. This is very frustratin...

You can google Troyer's Bird' Paradise catalog. A link to the catalog or even a telephone number will be revealed.
